Easy tee shirt midi dress sewing tutorial
In today's postal service: Learn how to plough a t-shirt pattern into a midi length dress perfect for spring.
Fourth dimension for some other dress! I usually sew together maxi dresses for myself because they're my favorite, but the weather is warming up and I wanted something a little lighter, and then I this week I whipped up a midi length apparel. I used my free classic tee pattern equally the base for this extremely easy-to-sew dress.
I found some more floral brushed polyester spandex fabric on Etsy – I dearest this stuff! It'southward the aforementioned type of fabric that I used for the classic tee maxi dress, just in a different colour. It's lightweight without beingness clingy and information technology'southward also extremely soft.
This wearing apparel was super easy to sew. I simply added length to the archetype tee pattern and added some elastic around the waistline and that was it!
I kept the curved hem from the tee shirt pattern which I call up turned out pretty beautiful.
To brand this dress, you'll need 2 yards of 60 inch wide knit (stretchy) material. Wash and dry your material before beginning.
You'll need to get to the archetype tee post to download the free pattern in women'south size large. Print it out at 100% or full size. Butt the pages together and tape them without overlapping, so cutting out the design. If you lot are non a size large, you could trace an easy fit tee to make your ain pattern.
To make a dress instead of a shirt, yous'll need to make a few alterations (as shown in the photo above). I added about xviii inches of length to the shirt pattern, also as angling the side seam out a chip. I cut the sleeves virtually 4 inches longer than the elbow length pattern as well to brand 3/4 length sleeves. I also cutting neckbinding as directed on the blueprint.
You'll sew the dress upwards the aforementioned fashion as directed in the archetype tee tutorial. You tin finish the neckline and hem the sleeves. It volition look like this:
Then you can try the clothes on and wrap a slice of 1/ii inch broad elastic around your waist. Motion the elastic up and downward to decide where you want the waistline of the wearing apparel to be, and marker it with pins.
Then yous'll attach the elastic to the within of the dress. You can apply a zigzag run up, every bit directed in this daughter's dress tutorial. Or you tin can use two rows of direct stitches, as shown in this tutorial.
Then hem the wearing apparel by turning up the bottom ane inch and sewing with a double needle (or other stitch that will stretch).
Done!
